The Journey to the Complete Man

Life can often feel empty, frustrating, coveting the seemingly greener pastures of the neighbour, beating ourselves down for not doing enough with our resources....

Knowing our Purpose, Calling and Assignment(s) is a good start in dealing with the negative thoughts and emotions that plague our daily lives.

The Purpose of every human being on earth is to know Yahweh His Creator, and to make Yahweh known. This is the true existence of man that as Yahweh's image bearer we reflect His character, nature and order.

This Purpose is universal and unchanged in the changing seasons of man's life. Man's purpose must not be confused with his accolades, or career.

Man's Calling on the other hand is how Yahweh in His wisdom has designed and planted gifts in man in order that man may reflect his Purpose which is to know Yahweh and to make Him known. A Calling is unique to every human being and even the most identical of twins would have different Calling on their lives. Their Calling may appear similar but very distinct in how Yahweh has gifted each.

In the diversity of Calling lies the universal element that Yahweh's image/character is projected. Calling such as Singing, Word of God Ministering, Charity must always reflect God's nature and not project man's fame/popularity, wealth or brand. Through each Calling others must experience that man truly knows Yahweh and is 'selling' Yahweh to his audience, viewers or readers as he grows into and matures in the Calling which remains unchanged until his last breath.

An example is a person with a Singing Calling in her local church. Her unique soprano voice would be obvious in the children's ministry singing group and she could be the lead singer during children's service. As this little girl continues to have singing opportunities in her church including in the adult choir and during church outreach programmes, her Singing Calling would be maturing and not long she would be established in song ministration.

Man's Assignment on the other hand is seasonal and temporal but hinges on and together with the Calling man's Purpose-to know Yahweh the only true God and to make Him known is fulfilled.

Assignment begs the question: what is required of me in this season? For the little girl with the Singing Calling for a season she was in the children's group choir, and in another season she found herself singing with the adults. In a different season of her life she could be producing Christian music albums or singles, another season could find her as an adult mentoring children with Singing Calling or touring the world with her music so others experience Yahweh.

A classic Biblical example is the Apostle Paul. Purpose- Know Yahweh and make Him known. Calling- Write letters to the churches. Assignment for different seasons- Plant churches, mentor Timothy....

Would it be worth it for you and I to know and to walk in our Purpose, Calling and Assignment in this life as children of Yahweh? Let's be reminded of the words of scripture in Mathew 7:7. Yahweh from whom all good and perfect gifts flow awaits to give us revelations to bring us clarity in the midst of confusion, focus in a world of competition and distraction, alignment where previously misaligned, and contentment for worry and agitation as we walk in our Purpose, Calling and Assignment.

Walking in our Purpose, Calling and Assignment is no insulation from challenges and hardship but ultimately as children of Yahweh we can echo with boldness the words of Apostle Paul in 2Timothy 4:7-8.

The Peace of Yahweh rests with us as we seek from Him.
