Evil Eyes in a social media world
by Philippa Baka Boamah
With the emergence of social media we have grown accustomed to displaying everything online. We feel connected through these platforms. You may have never met someone but you know all about this person. You can even predict their schedule just by following their status and stories on their timelines. There is little to no privacy anymore. We share everything and anything.
As believers we need to understand that this life is more spiritual than physical and the spiritual rules the physical. The world is more than what we see. As man is made up of body, soul and spirit, we can connect with that which is spiritual. And as we are stewards of this earth, spirits easily operate in our realm through partnership with us. Depending on our alignment, we can be used for both good and evil. In this light we have people walking among us who possess diabolical spirits and can cause havoc among us without us being any wiser. This can be in various forms as we know it; witchcraft, diviners, demons and others.
There is that which we term as evil eye. This is when someone looks upon your success with envy and start to project negative thoughts about you. This can attract evil spirits in relation to envy, they assess the situation and start to work out this negative thoughts in real life leading to havoc. What makes this dangerous is that it’s instantaneous. Envy, jealousy and resentment attracts bad spirits that come to destroy. Evil eye operates through human systems and spiritual dimension.
We then need to be cautious of what we put out there. We should be mindful of what we share with family, friends, colleagues and on social media especially when this good development is in its early stage. we do not know the innermost thoughts of these people no matter how close we are to them or how good they’ve been to us. Some may not even be aware of this reality and might unintentionally attract bad spirits to you. The moment any one feels envious and begin to process any negative thoughts, these spirits can take hold of it even if the person is oblivious to it.
We should learn to keep it till it matures and no evil can destroy. Blessing is found in that which is not in public domain. What is hidden is protected. Premature exposure can interrupt fragile processes.
Envy distorts human relationships. It’s better to cut of relationships with people who always compare or seem to have negative perceptions about any success shared with them. Comparison leads to envy. When the king of Babylon decided to visit king Hezekiah because he had heard of his ill health, this was with good intentions. however upon arrival, the king decided to display his wealth which generated envy within his friend and ultimately led to the captive of the Israelites 2nd Kings 20… this was a prideful display which attracted envy from a friend.
We must learn to be discreet- practice silence, disciplined speech; not every success or development should be announced or put in public domain. Silence is not secrecy born out of fear but of wisdom. Public visibility awakens judgement. Prideful display can provoke public resistance.
Visibility without discernment creates vulnerability, attracting unwanted and unnecessary battles. Let’s share with caution so that our success matures and blossoms. Its fragrance will then announce its presence. Share with understanding.
